There is little scheduled in the corporate news calendar for Friday, so macroeconomic data is likely to hold more attention as the latest batch of UK retail sales data and flash PMIs are released.
The PMI surveys are expected to be “a key highlight in terms of how the global economy has performed into August”, according to economists at Deutsche Bank.
For July’s PMIs all major countries except for Japan had readings above the 50-mark that separates expansion from contraction. For Friday’s UK flash PMI, the manufacturing reading is expected to inch up to 53.6 from 53.3, while services is forecast to improve to 57.0 from 56.5 in July.
There will be a small amount of news in the company diary, notably interim results from building materials firm Kingspan Group PLC (LON:KGP).
Significant announcements for Friday August 21:
Interims: Kingspan Group PLC (LON:KGP)
