Despite record highs for both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq overnight – the FTSE got off to a negative start this Wednesday. The stronger than expected rise in consumer price inflation is playing its part with the cost of living jumping by 1.1% in July – it’s highest rate since March.
Pizza Express (LON:PIZ) has confirmed that 73 of its UK restaurants will remain shut permanently, with the potential loss of 1,100 jobs. The restaurant chain said it had cut a deal to reduce rent costs on its 454 UK outlets.
Following regulatory approvals in Kenya – Shanta Gold (LON:SHG) has completed its acquisition of the Acacia Exploration (AEKL) Kenyan gold assets from Barrick Gold.
Finally – two fundraising events today – Europa Metals’ (LON:EUZ) has raised £2mln for it’s Toral project in Spain. And Alpha Growth (LON:ALGW) has raised £500,000 to fund development of the company’s strategies.
